Tire factory. Where tires are produced in Russia: a tour of the factories and their products. Production of rubber mixture

When talking about car tires, we rarely think about what and how this product is made from. Meanwhile, everything is not as simple as it might seem at first glance. Tire production technology includes many stages and nuances. The initial stage of creating car tires is the development of their profile and tread pattern using specialized volumetric modeling computer programs. Next, the computer calculates and analyzes the efficiency of the tire in different situations and operating conditions, after which the shortcomings are eliminated, test samples are cut manually on special machines and tested in real conditions.

As a result of testing, information is collected for comparison with the performance of market leaders of the same class, after which final refinement is carried out, prior to launching the assembly line and mass production.

Production of rubber mixture

The material from which the tire is made is of paramount importance. It should be understood that tires from different manufacturers differ significantly, primarily in the properties of the rubber, the composition of which is often a trade secret. This serious approach is explained by the fact that the rubber compound determines the technical characteristics of the tires, including:

  • Level of road grip.
  • Durability and reliability.
  • Seasonality and wear resistance.

The rubber composition of modern car tires includes many materials and components: all kinds of additives and chemical compounds that determine the properties and behavior of the tires. Entire laboratories in each company are engaged in the selection and combination of these elements, because it is the chemical additives and their dosage that allow the product to outperform its competitors. The base for all is ordinary rubber, the composition of which is no secret to anyone. It consists of:

  1. Rubber, which can be isoprene (natural) and synthetic, is the basis rubber compound(from 40 to 50 percent of the composition).
  2. Carbon black (industrial carbon black), thanks to the molecular compounds of which the tire not only has a black color, but also becomes durable and resistant to wear and temperature (from 25 to 30 percent of the composition).
  3. Silicic acid, which increases the adhesion of tires to wet surfaces, and is used mainly by foreign tire manufacturers (approximately 10 percent of the composition).
  4. Resins and oils, which act as auxiliary components to ensure the softness and elasticity of the product (about 10-15 percent of the composition).
  5. Vulcanizing agents, the role of which is most often assigned to sulfur compounds and special activators.

Let us note that Russian rubber is recognized as the best throughout the world, and therefore is in demand and used by most of the world's leading manufacturing companies. And since synthetic rubber is inferior to natural rubber in all respects, the Russian Federation will remain a leader in this area for a very long time.

Component production

The technological process of creating a tire, among other things, includes several parallel stages in the manufacture of its components, including:

  • The rubberized tape is the primary blank for making the tread, cut depending on the required size.
  • Breaker and frame are elements responsible for resistance to cuts, breaks and other damage. The breaker and frame are also responsible for the rigidity of the entire tire structure.
  • The bead of the tire is its most rigid part, and ensures tightness when mounted on the wheel rim.

The material for the carcass and belt of modern tires is either metal cord or fiberglass. The latter is used in the manufacture of premium tires, while metal cord is indispensable in models intended to equip trucks.

Assembly and vulcanization

The final stage of tire production is assembly. This technological procedure is carried out by applying layers of the frame, sidewalls, side and tread, and is carried out on a special assembly drum. After layout and giving the desired shape, all constituent elements are connected into a monolithic structure through the vulcanization procedure. Next, the product undergoes the necessary checks, is labeled and sent to markets around the world.

The tire industry is one of the the most important industries as part of a chemical complex. At the end of 2018, the growth in passenger tire production was 12%, and truck tire production was 10%. If we count in absolute numbers, then the production volume for last year was at the level of 60.1 million units. Of these, the passenger segment accounted for 49.7 million units. In general, the industry has been growing for several years now. Domestic brands occupy about 40% of our market. The remaining factories in Russia produce tires under foreign brands, including Nokian, Michelin, Pirelli, Bridgstone, Continental and Yokohama. In addition, in 2018 the country imported

The production of car parts always has prospects for its development. Every day there are more and more cars, so more than one entrepreneur has made a fortune from a car enthusiast. But if the sale of automobile accessories and spare parts, the arrangement of a car wash or car service does not require relatively large investments, then the full-fledged production of parts, components, assemblies, and assemblies will require multimillion-dollar investments, which repels many entrepreneurs.

The production of car tires may be successful, but such a business cannot be called easy. On the other hand, tires are always in demand, and therefore, with proper organization of your production, you can count on selling large volumes of your products.

The most important obstacle to success in such an endeavor will be a fairly high level of competition. Now there are a huge number of companies on the market that produce car tires, and many of them already have a reputation and recognition among consumers, and therefore a novice entrepreneur does not have to count on a huge market share, no matter how good his products are. Several brands of car tires are known among the population, which is invariably associated with quality, and many of them are divisions or representative offices foreign companies. However, in most cases, the cost of products from such companies is quite high for the mass consumer, but even in this case, there are already a considerable number of tires on the market that belong to the lower price segment.

Russian manufacturers have a great advantage in that they have the opportunity to significantly reduce production costs due to the absence of large transportation costs and customs duties. Products supplied from abroad will always be more expensive than their analogues, which allows Russian manufacturers to offer consumers a competitive product for less money. But in the minds of the mass consumer there is a firm belief that high-quality tires cannot be produced in Russia, and therefore manufacturers are forced to invest considerable funds in a marketing campaign. Taking into account the fact that not everyone is ready to do this, a beginner has every chance by running a business in modern standards, to win a relatively large part of the market. But it should be noted that you will have to pay a lot of attention to quality.

The production of car tires is a very complex process that involves the work of several production lines, and many manufacturers also engage in their own development of raw materials, although at first glance it is much easier and more profitable to buy ready-made ones. But still, in most cases, the raw materials supplied to third-party manufacturers do not meet quality requirements, and the entrepreneur has to independently select the components and formulas for tire production. Most car tire manufacturers keep the raw material recipe secret, so it is impossible to say exactly what ingredients should be used. In general, the base is political or natural rubber, and the former is much cheaper, and it is almost always used in tires. At the same time, its quality is practically not inferior to its natural counterpart.

In Russia there are several established production facilities for synthetic rubber of good quality, so there should be no problems in this matter, and raw materials can be purchased at relatively low prices, and supplies will arrive regularly and with minimal delays. But it should be noted that the production of synthetic rubber is often associated with oil chemical industry, therefore, in light of recent events, strong price changes can be expected. Today, natural rubber is even obtained from weeds, so it is unknown what the price level will be even in six months. Now the cost of 1 kilogram of rubber is a little more than 100 rubles from Russian manufacturers, but this is the cost of synthetics.

In addition to rubber, the tire manufacturing process uses formulas, gas sulfur, protective wax, carbon black, adhesives, aqueous dispersions, bifurgin, diphenylguanidine, acetonanyl and many other chemicals, the number of which in one formulation can exceed 10 items. It is the chemicals that determine the quality, durability and other performance characteristics of a tire, so their correct selection can greatly change the condition of the product and its consumer value.

Ready ideas for your business

We should also note the last idea in in this direction business, which has not yet become widespread in Russia, but is already being put into production in Asian countries and may be of interest to Russian consumers. We are talking about colored tires that are not painted after production, but are initially produced in a specific non-black color. To do this, during production, coloring components are initially added to the raw materials, which makes it possible to obtain a non-standard product. However, recipes for such raw materials are not freely available, and if an entrepreneur wants to engage in such production, he will have to find professionals in the chemical industry and open his own laboratory for creating recipes.

To start your business, you need to register as an individual entrepreneur, but it’s better to register entity. It is most optimal to choose a limited liability company, because in this case, as in the case of individual entrepreneurship, a simplified taxation system will be available. This will allow transferring no more than 6 percent of income or 15 percent of operating activities to the state, which is noticeably more profitable than corporate income tax. You also need to choose the right OKVED code, and such activities fall under the definition (OKPD 2) 22.11 Tires, tires and rubber tubes; restoration of treads and rubber tires. It should also be noted that some types of tires have their own state standards.

Ready ideas for your business

After everything is decided legal issues, you can start searching for territory for your production. It is worth noting that in this case it is better to already have its own property, that is, several production buildings in a relatively small area. You will need more than one acre of land to locate your production, but the exact size of the plot directly depends on its volume. To save money, some entrepreneurs buy territory outside of large cities, where it is definitely lower, because tire production should be focused not on the regional market, but on the national market. In this regard, the location of your enterprise is not so critical, the main thing is convenient access and transport interchange.

If you do not have your own premises and land, then you can rent them, but in this case you will have to pay a lot of money for it every month. In any case, such an undertaking will require considerable funds for the improvement and purchase of its territory and, possibly, for the supply of communications and internal arrangement. It is quite difficult to name the exact price here, but it will definitely be several million. Warehouses should be located on the territory, industrial premises, administrative building and laboratory. The roads on the site must be asphalted, because transport will often visit the enterprise.

Next, you should find employees for your enterprise; in this case, you will need a large staff of machine operators, laboratory assistants and engineers who will create recipes and check the quality of the resulting products, support workers and management personnel. Also, quite often such an organization has its own marketing department, which is engaged in finding buyers and promoting products. Of course, you can’t do without a logistics department and a purchasing, sales and distribution department, but all other business processes that are not related to making a profit for the organization or optimizing its activities should be outsourced.

Enterprises engaged in the production of tires and tires can work either only with wholesale buyers or have their own retail sales points. The range of products produced will be quite large, so creating your own store may be advisable, but only if there is confidence that the demand for the products will be large enough to cover the costs of maintaining your retail outlet sales

Ready ideas for your business

Perhaps it would be better to open your own store much later, when the products become known on the market and are in demand among consumers. Otherwise, the enterprise for the production of tires and tires focuses directly on wholesale buyers who are already engaged in resale on their own. In order to sell large quantities of products, you need not only to engage in advertising, but also to independently search for potential consumers, for which sales specialists are hired.

So, the production of tires and tires begins either with the development of our own recipes, or with the purchase of ready-made raw materials that will be used in production. However, as already noted, it is unlikely that anyone will sell ready-made recipes, so having your own laboratory is often necessary. In this regard, experienced chemists will be required who will be able to develop a recipe that is not inferior in quality to analogues on the market.

Once you have received the recipe, you can begin the production process itself. Creating a tire consists of several stages. Based on the resulting recipe, the components are mixed, and for all parts the recipe is different and different compositions are required. The laboratory must monitor the composition of the mixture, and in case of any deviations, stop the production process from it. There are two lines in length: long and short; on the first, the sidewall and tread are manufactured, and on the second, bead rings, metal cord and textile cord are made.

The tread, sidewall and other parts have their own separate production line, each using a variety of equipment. These include molders, extruders, chillers, cutters, winders, applicators, handlers, mixers, tablet machines, cleaners, hydraulic presses, vulcanizers and assembly machines. The cost of a complete tread line is approximately 15 million rubles, extrusion equipment costs approximately 7 million, a line for the production of a containment layer can generally cost more than 20 million rubles, depending on the configuration. The average cost of each machine is rarely less than one million rubles, so the total cost of equipment often exceeds 50 million rubles, and depending on the number of workshops and their equipment, it can be several times more.

It is also worth noting that the equipment is made to order, and sometimes takes a year to create, transport and install, followed by commissioning of the equipment. To this it is also worth adding the purchase of laboratory equipment, but it will cost much less, because the average cost of a machine here rarely exceeds 600 thousand rubles. The purchase of molds can also be a significant expense item, because the sizes of tires on cars are different, and there are a huge number of them. It is worth adding here that each standard size is usually made in 4 variants: summer, winter, winter studded and all-season tires. But this is relevant primarily for passenger cars. It is in connection with this that there is a very large range of products at such enterprises. The cost of each mold is at least 70 thousand rubles, and their production also takes time.

After the products are ready, they are sent to the warehouse. Usually today the goods are picked up directly by the buyer himself, rather than taken away by the manufacturer. However, for your own needs, including for transportation within the enterprise, you will need appropriate transport, which may include not only forklifts, small vans, but also full-fledged trucks.

If you plan to open your own store to sell finished products, truck transport will be necessary, and you will have to maintain a sufficient fleet for constant cargo transportation. This may become an additional expense, because trucks are unlikely to cost less than one million rubles each. Contacting transport companies on a regular basis may not be profitable, so it is best to contact a credit institution to obtain loans or purchase a vehicle on lease.

In this type of business, it is very important to accurately identify the sales market and the consumer population that needs to be targeted. Consumers do not trust Russian manufacturers, but their products are often much cheaper than foreign analogues, so they always find their consumers, because a considerable number of car enthusiasts even save on tires. It is worth noting that the price gap between the cheapest and most expensive goods can be quite significant, and in this case the company’s policy, which seeks to reach consumers who want to save money, has a right to exist, because in this case it will also be possible to sell large quantities of its products . In some cases, even very good quality with a greatly inflated price compared to the market average will not be a decisive factor for the consumer when purchasing a tire.

However, it is worth noting that the market in the best possible way they use products in the mid-price segment that are of average quality; in the minds of the buyer, savings are combined with the relative reliability and durability of the product. But you need to take into account that transportation costs can slightly increase the cost of products, so in your region of work it can be much cheaper than in other regions of the country. First, you should study the market and consumer demand, identify their needs, evaluate competitors’ offers and try to occupy the most open niche. In many cases, it is also not necessary to produce tires for absolutely any car; at first, production focused only on the most common models may be sufficient.

Assessing the tire and tire production business, one can talk about its prospects and capabilities, but these areas require quite large investments from the businessman, and the level of competition is quite high relative to how complex the production is launched. In this regard, before starting your work, you need to order marketing research or conduct it yourself in order to know all the strengths and weaknesses of such an undertaking in a particular region.

The payback period for such an undertaking is several years, depending on demand, which is unlikely to be too high at first. On the other hand, if there is a focus on the lower price segment, you can immediately count on consumer interest in the product, because in this case customers choose not the brand, but the minimum price.

Car tires are an integral part of the car. And its quality in manufacturing is very important not only for the driver of the car, but also for its manufacturer, because the reputation of the production itself depends on it. It is worth noting that today there are at least three types of car tires. These are summer, winter tires and, of course, the demi-season. They are all used for the same transport, but have slightly different and appearance and to some extent even somewhat different technological process.

The most famous manufacturers

Today, the most famous tire manufacturers in the world are considered to be such manufacturers as Michelin (which also includes the brands Kleber, BFGoodrich), Bridgestone (which also includes the brands Lassa, Firestone, Winterforce, Fuzion) and the Finnish Nokian. It is also worth noting GoodYear, Continental, Pirelli, Hankook, Yokohama, Cooper, Kumho, Toyo and many others.

Raw materials for production

Today, the number of tire manufacturers, both domestic and foreign, is simply amazing, and sometimes the end buyer is somewhat confused making the right choice shoes for your war horse. But still, if you look at the tire production process, you can see that no matter what manufacturer produces these tires for us, the same material is used to produce them. And this is rubber. For its production, in most cases, natural or synthetic rubber, as well as autocord, are used.

It is worth noting that in the production of tires it is imperative to use only high-quality rubber, since the stability of the car in a wide variety of weather conditions, the quality of adhesion of the tires to the road surface, regardless of its condition, and much more will depend on the quality of the rubber for the tires.

Tire production technology

The direct production of tires begins with the production of a special rubber mixture, which will subsequently be used to make tires for cars. The composition of this rubber mixture, depending on its production technology, can include up to a dozen different chemicals. In addition, some other components, in particular various dyes and much more, can also be added to the rubber mixture, which is produced specifically for car tires. In some cases, these components arrive at production ready for use. It is this rubber mixture that will be used for the manufacture of various blanks. But before making blanks, it goes through a special technology of mixing the component parts, after which it is cooled and cut into special sheets, which will subsequently turn into a wide variety of parts of car tires. The blanks, which are formed from the rubber mixture, are the most diverse parts of the future tire - these are its side parts, treads and much more. It is worth noting that those parts that the tires will subsequently come into contact with the road are made last using the vulcanization method. Moreover, it is this process that allows us to obtain exactly that unique tread pattern that we very often see on car wheels. Special attention deserve the manufacture of winter tires, since it is during this period that the most unforeseen situations on the roads occur. Also, during the production of blanks, the standard size of the future tire must be taken into account; this is due to the fact that different car manufacturers have different tire sizes.

After a wide variety of tire parts have been made from the rubber mixture, it is sent to a machine where the tire for the car is directly assembled. It is worth noting that the entire tire manufacturing process is automated, and human participation is limited to monitoring the correct operation of those installations that are involved in production.

Video about how tires are made at the Michelin plant:

A very important process in the manufacture of tires for cars is the process of monitoring the quality of manufactured products. If during such inspection even the most insignificant defects of a particular tire were discovered, it must be returned for recycling and in no case can it end up in retail chains shops for car enthusiasts. It must be said that during this check of car tires, not only visual inspection, but also some other methods. In particular, in some cases, x-rays can be used. In addition, there are special machines that carry out all the necessary tests that allow us to determine how well a particular type of tire meets quality standards.

Every car owner knows that tires tend to wear out. This is one of the main components in the car system that ensures stable movement. Therefore, their condition must be monitored especially carefully. But few people know that there are tire manufacturing plants in Russia. A common stereotype is that a foreign product is always better and of higher quality than a domestic one.

This was the case until recently. Today the situation has changed dramatically. Some brands made in Russia are exported to Western countries.

List of Russian tire manufacturers

Many drivers today confidently claim that it is simply impossible to produce high-quality tires in Russia. This opinion will quickly disappear if a person visits a modern Russian plant. Russian tires today are manufactured taking into account all international requirements, norms and standards. Production is fully automated. Production takes place using modern equipment. The production technology is identical to the European process for manufacturing car tires.

The following tire manufacturing plants operate in Russia:

There is also a common myth that Russian factories use rubber in the production of tires. This is absolutely not true. For more than 15 years, domestic manufacturers have not used materials that are not known for their positive properties as raw materials for their products. For passenger cars, sales of domestic tires are five times higher than Western products.

PJSC Nizhnekamskshina is the founder of European production technologies in Russia

A real giant plant is located in Nizhnekamsk. Almost every third car tire manufactured in Russia comes from Nizhnekamskshin. A special scientific laboratory accredited by the State Standard of Russia was created on the territory of the plant. The laboratory fully complies with all technical competence. Today, Nizhnekamskshina is an entire scientific and technical center. Modern and technically equipped.

In 2004, the first car tires were produced in Nizhnekamsk international standards. The license was issued by the world's fifth largest Italian tire company, Pirelli. PJSC products"Nizhnekamskshina" received the name "KAMA EURO". Today the plant produces about 2 million environmentally friendly and high-speed radial tires per year.

Amtel-Vredestein – tires for any climate

Amtel in Russia is based in the cities of Kirov, Moscow and Voronezh. Today it is one of the leaders in terms of sales volume. The products are mainly aimed at owners of cars and SUVs. But you can also find rubber for heavy equipment and even bicycles. Amtel is constantly improving its products taking into account the changing climate of Russian latitudes.

Amtel produces tires in various categories, which allows them to occupy a leading position in the segment. Another advantage of the company is the presence of its own headquarters of scientists who are constantly working to improve products. Independent experts have already proven that car tires from Amtel are not inferior to their Western European counterparts. Most car owners note the reliability and quality of Maloya Futura Primato tires from Amtel. They are characterized by a long service life and increased wear resistance. However, to find them on store shelves in Russia, you need to really try.

LLC "Contaer" - produces the best tires for winter roads

Car tires from CONTYRE are popular among Russian car enthusiasts. The most famous tire can rightfully be considered Contyre Artic Ice. Rubber allows you to feel comfortable and confident on snowy roads of any complexity within the city and outside the city. Due to the fact that the manufacturer adds an increased amount of silicon during rubber production, Contyre Artic Ice maintains moderate elasticity at any temperature.

Automobiles from the company Contaer LLC are very popular. Just recently, Contyre Expedition tires began to be installed on UAZ Hunter vehicles. This tire has shown high levels of road grip, which allows it to be distinguished by increased cross-country ability.

JSC Belshina is ahead of everyone

"Belishna" is largest enterprise for the production of rubber for cars in Europe. The company has established cooperation with many countries, including Russia. The plant has products in 200 standard sizes. More than 90% of products are radial tires. The plant originates in the city of Bobruisk in the Republic of Belarus. In Russia, it was established representatively in Volgograd.

Belshina specializes in the production of tires for large vehicles. For example, for the BelAZ mining dump truck. But recently, in the company’s model range you can find good tires for passenger cars.

JSC "VOLTAIR-PROM" is the best solution for Niva owners

The Volzhsky Tire Plant has been actively operating since 1964. Today, VOLTYRE-PROM JSC produces automobile tires of various categories. The VLI-5 VOLTYRE model is perfect for VAZ cars.

Most Niva car owners equip their cars with this particular set of tires. VLI-5 VOLTYRE has good maneuverability. Rubber perfectly overcomes obstacles in the form of mud and snow. Disadvantages include excessively noisy operation and prolonged braking on wet asphalt.

URALSHINA is a worthy manufacturer of car tires

URALSHINA is familiar to domestic drivers from the well-known tire models K-135 and O-104. The most widely used model is the K-135 for its excellent road grip. In general, there are conflicting opinions about this model. But, as they say, it depends on the taste and color.

The plant also produces “shoes” for large-sized agricultural machinery and tracked vehicles.

OMSKSHINA – stability and quality

Cordiant and Motador are probably the most famous model range among the products of the Omsk plant. Despite the fact that the OMSKSHINA plant, part of the Cordiant holding, is quite young, today we can say that through the production of high-quality products, the company managed to win the love and trust of Russian drivers.

The majority of car owners speak positively about the company's products, and independent experts assure that the future Russian production automobile tires entirely depends on the development of production technologies at the OMSKSHINA plant

KShZ is the only representative of Eastern Siberia

The Krasnoyarsk Tire Plant is the only representative of this industry segment in Eastern Siberia. For more than 40 years, KShZ has been producing rubber for cars and trucks.

Car tires from KShZ are not very popular among drivers, but the trend is that the plant will soon reach new positions. This happens due to the introduction of European production technologies.

Yaroslavl Tire Plant is a legendary manufacturer of off-road tires

The Yaroslavl tire manufacturer is completing a complete list of manufacturers. Many people know about the legendary Ya-192 tire. Yes, these tires are not very good for fast and comfortable driving on asphalt. Most often, the Ya-192 was equipped with military equipment, since this model was characterized by its tenacity and durability. Therefore, for SUVs, tires from the Yaroslavl plant will be the best solution. The modern analogue of the YA-192 today is considered to be the higher quality and improved YA-471 tires.

Russia, as a tire producing country, is reaching a new level today. You should not pay attention only to where the rubber was produced. Performance characteristics and properties become more important. Domestic factories have made significant strides forward in production technology; some representatives sell their products to the West, where Russian tires are in demand.
